One clear sample of Perfect’s expertise in water treatment and supply can be seen at the Muswellbrook Water Treatment Plant. This aging asset was in dire need of extensive plumbing, biological, hazmat, and structural works that would see it into the next half-decade of service.
Biohazard Remediation
Due to the age of the facility, parts of the plant had been utilised by local fauna as a waste facility. The biological hazards to the WTP workforce were unacceptable. The area was cordoned off with an airtight bubble with the waste removed and sent to the local hazardous waste facility. The area was then thoroughly cleaned and pressed back into service.
Hazmat Removal
The plant was also home to disused friable asbestos silos that had begun to disintegrate. Adjacent live power lines, these crumbling towers were carefully craned out and disposed of as per our ARP.
Reconstruction
Termites had fed on structural timber members which included towers and roof trusses. Additionally, water had begun to enter the roof cavity. The towers were repaired and there were major alterations to the roof trusses ending in extensive waterproofing and finally the installation of a new roof.
Heritage Refurbishment
The final phase was the remediation of the heritage facade. It had been constructed in 1913 and renovated in 1939, art deco style. Without significant reworks since the late thirties, it was in dire need of a facelift to heritage spec. It was repaired and repainted with period-correct colours, preserving it for another hundred years.
